“Outside” Enrichment

While during the global pandemic it was strongly discouraged to physically outside for any unnecessary reason, I did make an effort to get involved in the community.

I made an effort to join an on campus group to give back to the community, Kappa Kappa Gamma, whose mission is to build a strong group of women that give back to those in need. It has only been a couple months and I have already joined in service projects such as a virtual 5k and recording readings of children’s books for the Reading is FUNdamental foundation.

I knew that this time of school online was becoming isolating, so putting myself in the position to join a club was the best decision I ever could have made. It was nerve wracking at first to put myself out there to apply and go through the recruitment process, however I am so happy that I gave it my all because I have already met so many likeminded friends that value service and giving back.

There are many takeaways from this experience and there will be countless more in my future at Georgetown, however the most important things I have gained from joining a campus service group is the realization of how doing good for others and the environment is extremely beneficial for everyone. Not only does it make others feel good, but it is extremely beneficial for one’s mental health, along with the ideal way to build a friendship foundation with likeminded others.
